Treatment options

Herpes Simplex Infections	Primary: Acyclovir 200-400mg PO 5 times daily for 5 days Recurrent: Regular normal saline dabs/gargle	Severe cases: Acyclovir 5mg/kg IV q8h for 5 days or until able to take orally, then change to oral

*Most effective when started within 48-72 hours after rash appears. After this time, antiviral medications may still be helpful if new blisters are appearing.
