Interaction: Cashew Apple and Cashew Nut

Cashew Nut

  • Cashew nut is considered low vitamin K (34.8mcg/100g of nut)
  • One ounce of cashew nut contains 13% of daily Vitamin K requirement (above 20% is considered Vit K rich food)
  •  Studies have shown that, compared to other nuts, consumption of cashew nut and pine nut can be high, leading to high level of Vitamin K consumptions
  • Other nuts are categorised as low Vitamin K food

Cashew Fruit

  • Not much study on vitamin K content
  • The fruit is rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants such as anarcardic acid.
  • The use of ascorbic acid has been implicated in causing warfarin resistance. However, controlled clinical trials have not demonstrated clinically important variations in prothrombin times
  • Based on the nut content and nature of the fruit, it can be postulated the fruit does contain vitamin K. but with an unknown level.
