Antibiotic therapy for Subdural Empyema

ü Subdural empyema (SDE) is a collection of pus between dura mater and arachnoid mater.
ü Empirical antibiotic therapy should consists of:
· ceftriaxone 2g IV infusion BD
· metronidazole 500mg IV infusion TDS
· vancomycin IV 1g BD
ü Adjust the antibacterials accordingly once organism identified and sensitivities known
ü Continue treatment until abscess resolved for a minimum of 6 weeks.
