Method of administration of methyprednisolone

Diluents:
  • Dextrose 5% in water
  • Normal Saline
  • Dextrose 5% in 0.45% or 0.9% sodium chloride
Method of administration:
  • Low dose  1.8mg/kg or ≤125mg/dose: IV push over 3-15mins
  • Moderate dose: ≥2mg/kg or 250mg/dose: IV over 15-30mins
  • High dose: 15mg/kg or ≥500mg/dose: IV over ≥30mins
  • Doses > 15mg/kg or ≥1g: Administer over 1 hour
  • Max concentration: 2.5-20 mg/ml
Additional information: 
  • Administer at high dose IV push may lead to hypotension, cardiac arrhythmias, and cardiac arrest.

  1. Hi, may I know if for acute spinal injury, how do we administer it? as IV bolus or infusion over hour? (as the dose usually more than 1g)
